Family Wealth Impact Summit (FamWIS) 2021

UNOG-WAAS Global Leadership 2021 Initiative
Rethinking the role of entrepreneurial families and the use of their wealth to address global challenges and make this earth a better place.

Initiated by the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) and the World Academy of Art & Science (WAAS), the Family Wealth Impact Summit (FamWIS) 2021 is hosted at ESMT Berlin on October 19, 2021.

The Family Wealth Impact Summit 2021 is the kick-off event for a global platform “Family Wealth Impact Society”: Young wealth leaders develop shared principles and standards for employing their entrepreneurial family wealth in Single Family Offices (SFOs) as a force for purpose and profit.

  • The financing gap to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, which were set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, is estimated to be about US$ 2.5 trillion per year in developing countries (UNCTAD World Investment Report, 2014).

  • A large proportion of today’s wealth is overseen by a relatively small number of families and their SFOs. Many young leaders in these families are prepared to use their resources for purpose and profit. Yet, such leaders often are in need of organized exchange and concerted action.

The FamWIS 2021 will address three key questions:

  1. What do we understand today about impact investing in SFOs globally?
  2. What are some of the exemplary investments that entrepreneurial families have been making to have a transparent and quantifiable impact?

  3. How can entrepreneurial families with their SFOs most effectively engage in impact investing?

Participation (by invitation only)

Participants are expected to actively involve themselves in the FamWIS 2021, which will be organized as a one-day summit by means of a hybrid video-meeting (e.g. Zoom). Each participant is expected to come from an SFO with $100m+ assets under management. The number of participants is limited to about 20, allowing for a round-table format. Because the FamWIS 2021 is fully sponsored by the Institute for Endowment Management and Entrepreneurial Finance (IFEE), participation is free of charge.
